Note on Purification and Zakat

  • Purification and Zakat (for long-term investing) calculations are in USD per share and based on AAOIFI methodology. AAOIFI requires purification every financial period (e.g. quarterly).
  • If you follow S&P Shariah’s Dividend-only purification, then remove the impure income % from the dividends you receive. No purification required for non-dividend paying stocks, according to S&P Shariah.
  • For Zakat, if you did not invest in a company from a long term perspective, then consider the shares as trading goods and give 2.5% of the total value if a year has passed on them.

Company Profile

The Waterbase Limited is a manufacturer of shrimp feed. The Company also processes shrimp in IQF, block frozen and cooked form from its own captive farms, and exports its produce to global markets, predominantly Japan, Europe and the United States. It produces a range of aqua feeds from its plants. Its shrimp feed brands include Bay White, Ultra XL, Tigerbay XL, and Magnum. Bay White is its Indian brand developed for Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) farming. Ultra XL is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon). Tigerbay XL is a balanced feed for modified extensive farming of tiger shrimp. Magnum is its feed for Scampi (Macrobrachium Rosenbergii) in India. It maintains prawn feed manufacturing units in Ananthavaram, TP Gudur, and Andhra Pradesh, with a capacity of approximately 1,00,000 metric tons (MT) per annum. It offers support services to farmers to help them minimize feed losses by ensuring regular distribution throughout the ecosystem.
