Note on Purification and Zakat

  • Purification and Zakat (for long-term investing) calculations are in USD per share and based on AAOIFI methodology. AAOIFI requires purification every financial period (e.g. quarterly).
  • If you follow S&P Shariah’s Dividend-only purification, then remove the impure income % from the dividends you receive. No purification required for non-dividend paying stocks, according to S&P Shariah.
  • For Zakat, if you did not invest in a company from a long term perspective, then consider the shares as trading goods and give 2.5% of the total value if a year has passed on them.

Company Profile

Sachem Capital Corp. is a real estate finance company. The Company is specialized in originating, underwriting, funding, servicing and managing a portfolio of short-term (three years or less) loans secured by first mortgage liens on real property located primarily in the Northeastern and Southeastern United States and may also be secured with additional collateral, such as other real estate owned by the borrower or its principals, a pledge of the ownership interests in the borrower by the principals thereof, and/or personal guarantees by the principals of the borrower. Its typical borrower is a real estate investor or developer who uses the proceeds of the loan to fund its acquisition, renovation, rehabilitation, development and/or improvement of residential or commercial properties that are held for investment or sale. The mortgaged property may or may not be income-producing. Its loans are referred to in the real estate finance industry as hard money loans.
