Note on Purification and Zakat

  • Purification and Zakat (for long-term investing) calculations are in USD per share and based on AAOIFI methodology. AAOIFI requires purification every financial period (e.g. quarterly).
  • If you follow S&P Shariah’s Dividend-only purification, then remove the impure income % from the dividends you receive. No purification required for non-dividend paying stocks, according to S&P Shariah.
  • For Zakat, if you did not invest in a company from a long term perspective, then consider the shares as trading goods and give 2.5% of the total value if a year has passed on them.

Company Profile

Aemetis, Inc. is an international renewable natural gas and renewable fuels company. It is focused on the acquisition, development and commercialization of negative carbon intensity products and technologies. Its segment includes California Ethanol, California Dairy Renewable Natural Gas and India Biodiesel. California Ethanol segment consists of a 65 million gallon per year capacity ethanol production facility located in Keyes, California (Keyes Plant) that it owns and operates. In California Ethanol, it offers products at the Keyes Plant: denatured fuel ethanol, Wet Distillers Grains, Distillers, Corn Oil, Carbon Dioxide and Condensed Distillers Solubles. California Dairy Renewable Natural segment Aemetis Biogas constructs and operates bio-methane anaerobic digesters at local dairies near the Keyes Plant; transports the biogas via pipeline to the Keyes Plant site; converts the biogas to Renewable Natural Gas, which is then delivered to customers through the PG&E natural gas pipeline.
